Carlos was passionate about Plan Wallata and preserving the cultural legacy of Ollantaytambo

We are terribly sad to inform you that our friend and fellow board member Carlos Alberto Arrarte was killed in a car accident last week.  He was on the way to a meeting about his great passion "Plan Wallata" a community development project for the town of Ollantaytambo, Peru. SPI was proud to partner with Carlos in this endeavor, and will work tirelessly with other stakeholders to bring his dream to fruition.

Carlos was Chairman of the Board of Lima Tours and of Turismo Cuida. He dedicated the last several years of his life to using cultural heritage and tourism to improve the lives of others.  He was a dear friend and ardent supporter of our work and will be greatly missed.  Recently he visited the SPI project at Pachacamac where he came to see the results of both the SISAN women's cooperative (partly funded by Turismo Cuida) and Bicitours at Pachacamac, where his joy in and enthusiasm for the women and young people thriving in these projects was readily apparent.

Our deepest condolences to his family, friends and coworkers.  Rest in peace, Carlos.
